A drone cleaning site assessment determines whether the building, surface, surrounding area and proposed work can support a controlled cleaning operation. It is not simply a visit to measure height. The assessment should identify the target area, access constraints, people and traffic below, water and drainage conditions, weather exposure, flight space and the approval questions that must be resolved.

Trees, cables, signs, balconies, adjacent buildings and narrow setbacks can restrict the operating envelope. The team also needs a safe take-off and landing area and a way to prevent unauthorised entry.
People, vehicles and neighbouring activity
Entrances, loading bays, pedestrian routes, tenant areas and public roads affect the plan. The assessment should identify which areas can be isolated, what cannot be interrupted and who has authority to control access during the work.
Water, hose routing and runoff
A cleaning drone may depend on ground equipment and a controlled water line. The assessor checks source pressure, hose distance, trip hazards, sharp edges, traffic crossings and drainage. Overspray and runoff must not affect electrical equipment, neighbouring property, production areas or the public.
Weather exposure
Building corners, roof edges and open industrial areas can produce different wind conditions from those measured at ground level. The final method needs defined weather limits and stop-work conditions. A site visit is a snapshot, so the crew must still verify conditions on the workday.
Emergency and recovery considerations
The team considers loss of control, equipment failure, water-line problems, unexpected public entry and changing weather. Access for emergency response, communications and safe equipment recovery should be considered before mobilisation.

Why the regulatory check cannot be generic
CAAM’s current public guidance says UAS flights require authorisation and describes Standard ATF as a route for low-risk operations with no spraying or dispensation. A drone cleaning operation should therefore be reviewed against its actual equipment, payload, location, flight profile and support activity. A contractor should not claim that one generic permit covers every cleaning site.
